First things first: I love Firefly. All things considered, it might be my favorite tv show of all time. Of course, like all good things, Fox killed it (see also: Arrested Development, Undeclared, Space: Above and Beyond, Alien Nation, The Critic, The Lone Gunmen, Wonderfalls, Family Guy (the first time), and Futurama)
Though, there are other shows that Fox refuses to let die
Seriously, Firefly is amazing. If you haven’t seen it, go watch the entire series now (it’s only one season). I mean it, go. Now. This review will still be here when you get back. Go.
Are you back? You didn’t watch it, did you? Sonofabitch… Ah well, here we go.
This episode starts with Mal finding out he’s married. It’s as big a surprise to him as it is to the rest of the crew. He resists the marriage, but damn… His wife Saffron is played by the beautiful Christina Hendricks. This is where you just accept your situation.
Of course, this being Firefly, there is a great plot twist that I won’t reveal here, because you’re all bastards that haven’t watched the show yet. It’s enough to say that it’s a great twist and contributes to a great episode.
This episode is brilliant. Almost every character gets some great moments, but Wash, Book and Jayne get the best ones. River actually doesn’t have a single line in the episode, but gets one of the best deleted scenes ever. (BUY THE DVDs. NOW.)
Firefly’s strength was character development, and this episode does it perfectly. There’s also some great action and some of the funniest lines in the whole series. (It’s the second funniest episode next to Jaynestown.)
It’s a great episode of a great show. What else is there to say? Except… WATCH IT. WATCH IT NOW.
Final Verdict: I love this episode. Sure, I love every episode of Firefly, but this is one of the best.
